NSSA - National Scholastic Surfing Association

The National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to encourage and assist its members in their interest to learn and develop the fundamentals and skills of surfing competition while competing in structured and quality events. The NSSA promotes the qualities of discipline and competitive excellence while supporting the merits of academic achievement to young surfers. The NSSA strives to provide a fun surfing experience for all of its members.

The NSSA is one of the few national youth sports organizations that require its participants to maintain academic standards in order to compete. Since 1978, the NSSA program philosophy has been that athletics and scholastics go hand in hand. More than 80 NSSA events are run nationwide that culminate with the annual National Championships which is regarded as the highest profile youth surfing event in America.

PERFORMERS OF THE EVENT

**Saddleback College: The newly crowned 2020 West Coast Conference Collegiate Champions Saddleback claimed their first State Title since 2007. Saddleback placed 4 of 6 finalists in the College Mens final, team member Bethany Zelasko took the College Womens State title and team member Ethan Mudge took third in the Longboard final.

**San Clemente High School: SC swept both categories in Varsity and Junior Varsity. The Varsity team have won three straight and the Junior Varsity won their sixth consecutive State title. The Junior Varsity team swept individual State titles with Henry Grattan winning JV Mens, Julia Guild going back-to-back in JV Womens and Griffin Glenn winning JV Longboard.

**Shorecliffs Middle School: Shorecliffs claimed their fifteenth consecutive State Title and their career seventeenth State victory with one of the most outstanding clutch comebacks in State Championship history. In second place behind Oak Crest going into the final rounds, Shorecliffs team members went 1-2 in the Boys final with Dash Pinegar taking first and Rex Hennings taking second. Shorecliffs Longboarder Banning Wetzel took the Middle School State title in Longboard. Those results put Shorecliffs over the top by 2 points!
